The Blazing Mountain Retreat Center is located at 2541 Carefree Way, Crestone, CO 81131. When driving to our center in Crestone, please use the directions given below.
Flying Most people fly into Denver International Airport (DEN), which is a four-hour drive from Crestone. You can also fly into Alamosa County Airport (ALA), which is a one-hour drive to Crestone. Denver flights tend be less expensive, and involve fewer connections.
Bus Service For the journey down to Crestone a great option is to take the bus. Black Hills Stage Lines (phone: 402-371-3850) runs a bus that travels daily from Denver to Moffat. Program coordinators can arrange for someone to meet you at the bus stop in Moffat and drive you the remaining 20 minutes or so to the retreat center. It departs from the Denver Greyhound bus station at 2:00 pm and arrives in Moffat just after 6:00 pm, and the fare is $32.75. Tickets can be booked on Black Hills' website here: http://www.
PLEASE NOTE: For the upcoming retreat with Anam Thubten, bus service is not a viable option because of the schedule. Please make other arrangements accordingly.
If you are flying in to DIA prior to taking the bus, you will need to plan your flight arrival to allow enough travel time to arrive at the bus station before 2:00 pm. We recommend arriving by 11 am. Denver city buses will take you to the bus station from DIA. The "AF" bus route can take you right from the airport to the Denver bus station, and it leaves about once an hour on Saturday -- that schedule information is here: Denver RTD. No need to book a ticket for this bus in advance, you can just pay cash as you board the bus.
For the return trip from Crestone back up to Denver, program coordinators can arrange a ride to the Moffat bus stop on the morning of your departure. The bus leaves daily from Moffat at 7:00 am and arrives in Denver at 11:15 am. From the Denver bus station, you can then take a city bus to DIA (please see bus schedule link above), so please plan your flight's departure time to allow for enough travel time to the airport.

In order to minimize neighborhood surrounding the Dharma Ocean Retreat Center, please use the routes described below. Keep in mind that Crestone is a quiet community which values slow car speeds (to reduce noise). The roads are shared by pedestrians, cyclists, elk, coyote, (even at night), so it is very important to be alert and aware when driving in Crestone.
After turning from Hwy 17 onto County Rd T, go 10 miles, toward the mountains. As you come into town, you'll notice that the the speed limit is reduced, and there is a church on the left. About a minute after passing the church, you'll come to wide fork in the road. Go right at the fork onto Camino Baca Grande, into the community marked as The Baca. (Note: bearing left at this fork takes you into downtown Crestone). Continue on Camino Baca Grande to Camino Real (locally known as "Two Trees"). Although Camino Real is not well marked, it is after you cross Brookview Way and then a small brook. Turn right onto Camino Real. After a few seconds you should notice that there is a tree in the middle of the road, and another one a few yards past it, also in the middle of the road. Go left on Wagon Wheel Rd., and keep going until you come to a stop sign. Go left on Camino Del Rey. Go until the road appears to end in a "T". Go left onto Camino Baca Grande (again). Turn left at the first oppotunity onto unmarked Carefree Way (you'll pass signs for Vajra Vidya Retreat Center on the right side of the road). Carefree Way is highlighted with a noticeably large rock and cairns. The residence hall is the first building on the right. The shrine hall is the second building on the right.
