Meditation

Meditation transforms our lives. When engaged with consistency, the practice acts like a fire — burning away the extraneous and leaving exposed the awakened core of who we are. Opened by this process, we enter the world with a clarity that perceives the brilliance around us, and a softness that allows us to truly help others.

All Dharma Ocean activities emphasize meditation's irreplaceable role in our journey. Public events such as Winter Dathün present the foundational aspects of mindfulness-awareness (shamatha-vipashyana) practice. Subsequent offerings take us further and further — culminating with the presentation of Mahamudra, a Vajrayana means of bringing us into direct contact with reality, and Darkness Practice, a method of opening the mind in an utter and absolute way.

In the course of this training, we are encouraged to make an ongoing relationship with meditation through daily practice, group retreats, and solitary retreats. Practitioners are supported in this by programs and intensives in Crestone, Colorado and elsewhere. Meditation groups meet in City Sanghas across North America, and a solitary retreat facility is being developed in the Crestone area.

From the Archives

While a relationship with a human teacher and the support of a practicing sangha are crucial tools on the meditator's journey, much can be discovered through listening to guided meditations and talks on the view of meditation in the comfort of your own home.  To fuel your practice, we offer many free talks and videos, as well as an extensive audio download store, with select retreat recordings and audio compilations such as these:
