In the Dharmasagara lineage, study and practice are interdependent and mutually supportive. Study is not pursued for its own sake — we study so we might better understand and inhabit the full scope of our lives; so when embodied wisdom speaks, we can recognize and respond to the call; so we may someday teach others as we have been taught.
Accordingly, Dharma Ocean presents many opportunities for us to refine our conceptual understanding of the journey meditation allows. Whether through the daily talks at Winter Dathün; the formal curricula of Meditating with the Body®, the Vajrayana Training Intensive, and the Sutrayana exploration of the Hinayana and Mahayana; or through the study groups that arise within its various communities, the foundation encourages us to deepen all aspects of our being in a continuing way.
Chögyam Trungpa urged his students to cultivate the intellectual approach of the scholar, the intuitive approach of the yogi, and the compassion of a bodhisattva — for it is compassion that transforms intellect and intuition into wisdom. At Dharma Ocean, we study so we might develop intellect, intuition, and compassion, each informing and enriching the other; these three are our inheritance and legacy.
