Vision

Awakening is an ever present possibility in our lives and our fundamental purpose as humans.  To be awake is to fully open to our deepest selves, other people, and the world around us. When we live in this way, we realize the most basic longings of our hearts and the person we have come here to be. This is the view held by the practicing lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. The Dharma Ocean Foundation works to bring this fulfillment into the modern context, to help us awaken our hearts, and share this with the world.

As meditation is our primary means of accomplishing this, the foundation offers training in this discipline through retreats in Crestone, Colorado and outreach events across North America. Working with the transformative practices of the Meditating with the Body® curriculum — and enhanced by an unfolding of Tibetan Buddhism’s three-yana journey — this training is uniquely able to reveal the depth and fullness of our lives.

Reginald A. Ray, the foundation’s guiding teacher, writes in Touching Enlightenment of realizing “the complete liberation and fulfillment of ourself and unreserved and resourceful compassion for the world.” Dharma Ocean exists so we might live in this way. The foundation’s hope is that we will, in our present situation, come to know the insight and caring at the core of who we are.
