SUMMARY:Awakening the Body: The Way of Somatic Meditation
DESCRIPTION: \n“Meditation is learning to tap into the wisdom\, inspiration and unconditional love of the body. All we need to do is let go and let the body show us our true life.” \n~ Reggie Ray \n\nAn Online Immersion with Reggie Ray\nRegistration is not yet open. \nGo to the updated version of this page. \nOur body is the most direct and perfect path to profound spiritual transformation. Through our body\, we connect with the inherent\, self-existing wakefulness that is already present within it. \nIn this online immersion\, Reggie leads us in exploring the view and practice of somatic meditation and how it reveals the joy\, altruism\, and creativity that reside at the core of our being. Designed for beginning and advanced students alike\, the training focuses on a series of powerful somatic meditation practices drawn from Tibetan and East Asian Buddhism and spiritual Taoism. \nThis program offers an in-depth guided exploration of the practices presented in Reggie’s book\, The Awakening Body. We’ll be learning how to uncover the full fruition of the guided practices in both our formal meditation and in our daily life. For those of you who have already worked with the practices in The Awakening Body\, the course will allow you to deepen your experience with the practices through Reggie’s direct oral transmission which is so essential for the life of these teachings. \nThis is an introductory course and is a prerequisite for further courses in this series. [Learn more about the Foundations Courses.] \n\n\n \nLocation \nOnline Program \n \nCoordinator \nInfo@dharmaocean.org \n\n\n \n\nWelcome Video\n\n\n\n\n\nThis 10-week online course includes:\n\n15 hours of video teachings and guided meditations by Reggie Ray and Caroline Pfohl\, recorded specifically for this course.\nGuidance and accountability through the program by a Dharma Ocean senior teacher.\nOne live community gathering on Zoom with Caroline\, in which she will give teachings and answer questions (viewable after the live events).\nDiscussion forums and video conference calls facilitated by meditation instructors where you can ask questions and connect with other practitioners from around the globe.\nThe ability to download recordings of the talks and guided meditations.\nWeekly readings.\n\n\nCourse Details\nFor meditators of all levels\, this program includes talks and practices centering around: \n\nThe role of meditation as fundamental to human transformation\nUnderstanding the process of somatic meditation\, and how to do it\nThe posture of meditation as a practice\nWays of knowing and moving from ego identification to our true self\nUncovering the three “kayas” (or bodies) of the buddha\, and why this matters\nWorking with traumas big and small\, through somatic meditation as a path of healing\nThe tantric relationship to the body as a part of somatic practice\nThe body as sacred journey\, and the modern spiritual imperative\nCultivating a daily somatic meditation practice.\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Frequently Asked Questions\n \n \n \n \n \nWhat are Dharma Ocean Foundation courses? \nThese are online courses designed to allow for a deep dive into the core Dharma Ocean practices. Currently\, there are three developed courses\, Awakening the Body\, The Somatic Practice of Pure Awareness and Boundless Heart\, Loving the Self. These courses are designed to be taken in order. More about the Foundation Courses. \nIs this the same as last year’s course? \nThe recorded materials are the same as last year\, although the experience will be unique\, with a different community of practitioners\, different meditation instructors\, and new\, Live Community Gatherings with a senior teacher. \nHow much time will this course require? \nWe suggest participants be able to set aside 8-10 hours weekly to get the most out of the course. The talks each week last about an hour. Reggie recommends an additional 45 minutes of daily\, guided practice\, and time for the readings\, relate to the study questions and participate in the Live Discussion Groups and forums. \nWhat happens if I miss a week\, get sick\, have an emergency\, or am away for part of the course? \nThe materials will be available online for you to listen to whenever it’s convenient\, and you will have access to the full website with all of the videos and audio practices for 60 days after the program ends\, including downloading the audio teachings. \nHow does this differ from a live\, residential retreat or from listening to a CD series or reading the book on one’s own? \nLive retreats are more immersive (7-straight days of practice and teaching\, for example)\, and our online courses are designed to be integrated into your daily life. The slower pace of the courses\, and the time you have to both practice and to ask questions\, means that you are able to take a deep dive into how these practices can impact every part of your life and your most meaningful relationships. This can encourage you to integrate the teachings in a way that does not happen when on residential retreat. \nWhile working with a CD series or a book are both wonderful ways to learn\, when we are in the “container” of an online course\, there is a sense of accountability through the schedule and through engaging with others in the course. In today’s hectic and distracting world\, it can be challenging to complete an online course. These foundation courses are designed to create the kind accountability you would normally find in a residential retreat. Connection with others\, group discussions\, and personalized instruction all allow for a quality of learning and a depth of insight that can only come when one is engaged with a community of like-minded practitioners. \n  \n\n\n \n \n \n\nCourse Structure\nYou will need to obtain The Awakening Body from Shambhala Publications and Touching Enlightenment from Sounds True. \nNew course materials will be released each Thursday for the ten weeks of the program. Participants may engage with that material at any time during the week\, and previous weeks’ materials will be available to stream or download. \nParticipating in the forums is encouraged but not required. \nThe Awakening the Body website will remain open for about 60 days after the course is finished\, so participants may download materials or go through the course again at their own pace. \n\nAbout the Teachers\nDr. Reginald “Reggie” Ray draws on four decades of study and intensive meditation practice within the Tibetan Buddhist tradition to address the unique problems\, inspirations\, and spiritual imperatives of modern people. He is the founder and Spiritual Director of the Dharma Ocean Foundation\, a non-profit educational organization dedicated to the practice\, study\, and preservation of the teachings of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and the practice lineage he embodied. Read full biography \n\nCaroline Pfohl is the lineage successor of the Dharma Ocean lineage. Her spiritual journey has included three decades of study and practice in Chan\, Taoism\, and Tibetan Buddhism.  Within Dharma Ocean\, she holds the role of Desung (Protector of Joy)\, and drawing on lifelong work in educating and healing\, she takes the lead in bringing somatic meditation into the arenas of mentoring\, relationships\, family\, well-being\, and the arts. \n\n\n\n\nJessika Siorai has had meditation at the center of her life for more than 25 years\, and she has studied with Reggie Ray since 2005. In her teaching she is interested in sharing a meditative path that is not afraid of the messiness of life\, inviting the full range of human experience. A lover of poetry\, people\, and remote mountain trails\, she is a practitioner of acupuncture and traditional Taoist medicine\, and facilitates the Dharma Ocean meditation community in Boulder\, CO.\n\n\nRegistration & Tuition\nDharma Ocean is committed to extending the teachings by making our online courses widely available. Therefore\, we offer a number of levels of support for those in need. \nTuition for this program is $379. SUMMARY:Winter Meditation Intensive
DESCRIPTION: \n\n  \nLinks to Registration Below.  \nDharma Ocean’s Winter Meditation Intensive offers each of us a rare opportunity. Engaging the Somatic Practice of Pure Awareness\, we develop our capacity to rest in the body and receive all that is revealed. In this simple act\, we find our path. \nUnfolding over four weeks\, this program is a profound immersion into the possibilities of the Dharma Ocean lineage\, into the boundless potential of our human lives. Through surrendering to a daily schedule and accepting the support of community\, we find ourselves slowing down. We find ourselves beginning to feel what waits within us. \nThe Somatic Practice of Pure Awareness - one of the simplest and most profound practices in this lineage - holds us in a manner that allows all that waits to come forward. Through a gradual presentation of both the teachings and the practice stages of Somatic Pure Awareness\, we develop our ability to welcome life without judgment or agenda. \nEnhanced by the practice of walking meditation and extended periods of silence\, this work allows the body to express freely. We encounter joy and grief\, resistance and freedom. We touch a well of wisdom and compassion that can then be shared with this world. \nIf you feel called\, please join us for this transformative community retreat. Come for one\, two\, or three-week segments. Or come for the entire month. \n\n  \n\n\nLocation \nBlazing Mountain Retreat Center \nCrestone\, CO \n \nCoordinator \ninfo@dharmaocean.org \n \n\n\n\n \n\nAbout the Teachers\n\nNeil McKinlay\nA student of Reggie’s since 1999\, Neil’s teaching reflects an ongoing interest in the rich intersection of spirituality and everyday life.
