“By relating with the spiritual friend, you are learning how to work with genuineness.” – Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, The Bodhisattva Path of Wisdom and Compassion

Deep relationships with fellow practitioners are an honored part of the spiritual path. These relationships are with teachers, with sangha – your companions on this somatic tantric journey – and with meditation instructors, who mentor you along the way.

Your meditation instructor is committed to your awakening above all. They remind you of the beauty and purity of your buddha nature, they point out your blind spots and projections, and they help you to engage with everything that arises in your practice. They come to know you intimately and may become a lifelong spiritual friend.

Members who subscribe at the Foundation and Tantrika levels have the opportunity to work with one of the meditation instructors listed below. All of these meditation instructors are senior practitioners in the Dharma Ocean lineage and have been trained to provide spiritual mentoring. They volunteer their experience and skills, and in return, ask that you honor the relationship by committing to regular meditation practice and deepening your direct experience and understanding of the Vajrayana tradition.

To apply to work with a meditation instructor, first sign up for a Foundation Yanas Membership, or log into your account.

He came to Dharma Ocean after five years of monastic Zen practice at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center in California, and has been a tantrika with Dharma Ocean since 2012. In 2012, after being intrigued by one of Reggie’s articles translated into Thai by Vichak Panich, Usanee flew from Bangkok to attend the one-month winter Dathün. This set her out on a journey to gently meet the fear and anxiety in her body. Her personal journey to complete an M. Div. program at Naropa University in 2023, which among other things granted her access to Buddhist classical texts, made her appreciate how this lineage speaks Buddhism in today’s contemporary language. She is grateful for being reminded that to be truly who you are is to be present to our life as it is, and that ultimately we all can.

Formerly a wilderness guide, Richard practices psychotherapy and intensive trauma treatment in Colorado.  He was lucky enough to learn meditation from a Theravadan nun in high school, has been seriously engaging the Dharma for 15 years, and has been working with Reggie and Caroline since a Mahamudra for the Modern World retreat in 2014. He has found the Foundation Yana teachings to be helpful for patients in residential and outpatient treatment. Now a tantrika, Richard has recently been focused on solitary retreat, and finds the Kagyu lineage teachings as delivered by Reggie to be increasingly surprising and transformative in all realms of life.

Andreas Hülsmann

When Andreas discovered Dharma Ocean through Reggie’s recorded programs and the online courses in 2016 after 25+ years of zen practice, everything started to fall into place and the journey started to unfold. The somatic practices of this lineage were precisely what he needed in order to learn how to get out of his head and into the body, and, hence, life itself. So now he is eager to share what he has found (and continues to find). He lives with his wife and daughter in the town of Kassel in the heart of Germany where he teaches Spanish and French at a local high school.
